The proper response to this question depends on what your source of the question is. Colin Ogg is a musical prodigy whose music lessons began at the age of 5 with Nancy Moon. Colin started on the Piano then progressed to the Flute. At the age of 8, Colin picked up the violin, under the expert tutelage of Frederick Lucies and the harp, under the expert eyes of Phyllis Schllomovitz. (dec) Colin eventually went on to study in the prepatory division of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music under Serban Rusu and Davis Law. Colin was a member of the San Francisco Youth Symphony and the El Camino Youth Symphony, where he won the concerto competition of 1993. While he auditioned with the Bruch Violin Concerto #2, Walton's Viola Concerto was the work that was performed, conducted by Dr. Melissa McBride. Since then, Colin's musical exploits have included being a guest conductor for the San Francisco Conservatory's production of Handel's Messiah, a member of the praise team for Vineyard of Faith in Windsor, CA and a guest performer for the University of Texas production of South Pacific. Colin has developed a web design business as well as a restaurant that has since closed.

The speed of sound is about 1100 feet/second under common normal conditions. It can vary with altitude, air temperature and pressure; but not by much. The speed of light is about 186,000 miles per second in a vacuum or in air, a really really whole lot faster. So if you were in the last row at a concert, the light from the drummer drumming would be almost instantaneous but the sound from the drumming drummer would take longer to reach you. In fact, if you measured the time in seconds from when you saw the drummer drumming until you heard the drumming of the drum and multiplied it by 11 hundred, you could figure out how far away you were from the drummer drumming on the drums.
