He is much older and more experienced than you are. Realizing this, you need to do only what is comfortable for you...and...he should at all times be supportive in this. It sounds like you are being pressured in some way to be more than you are ready for at this time. So, take the time and enjoy. The "bars" will come down when you have no reservations and there will be time enough. If he cannot wait for you to catch up, so to speak, then you need to let him go.
