ASCAP collects royalties for public performances of music, such as on the radio, in live venues, and on streaming platforms. These royalties are distributed to songwriters and publishers based on the frequency and popularity of their music being played.

Is mp3va a scam?

It's certainly been a blessing for acquiring 2 albums I'd lost and had been unable to find anywhere else. But I find their payment procedure extremely difficult to navigate. Thinkinging I'd only be getting one album, for under 2 dollars, I put $30 in my account in case future finds prompted more downloads. Came to PayPal time and saw that the $30 had gone for "Translations & Tutorial Services." Later exploring found a much larger download, which pushed me to a balance due of $3.60 so I attempted to add another $15 to my account -- and have so far been rejected 7 times. After the first I found a PayPal confirmation email in my Spam so clicked on it and seem to be fully set up with PayPal. But even after switching from initial set-up Visa card to another Visa account, I'm still being rejected. The site's response is now that I should involve my digital dinosaur brain in another labyrinthine procedure involving PIN and forget what else. I totally cop to being technically challenged, but have previously managed to work through digital audio and video editing programs much more seemingly complicated. Does anyone reading this have a MAILING ADDRESS for mp3va? I've twice offered to promptly send cashier's check or my still due amount if they'll give me the address -- each has been answered with the same "jump in this other briar patch" suggestion.

Who can you talk to about royalties and what can be done when you see your album you made over thirty years ago being rereleased and sold on the internet?

You're looking for royalties on digitally distributed media. I would contact Sound Exchange to see if you can collect anything. Take a look at this article for more (and possibly links to the people you need to contact): http://www.knowthemusicbiz.com/index.php/BIZ-WIKI/Licensing-&-Royalties/Digital-/-New-Media-Royalties.html

How can I protect songs that i wrote and how do I do it?

When you copyright a song is that the same as ASCAP?

No. If you write something, you automatically own the copyright to your work (unless you have previously assigned it to someone else). However, copyright is just the first step in being able to collect royalties from your work. Performance-rights organizations like ASCAP, BMI and SESAC are (ostensibly) in the business of collecting royalties from the live performance or playback of copyrighted music (in public venues, on radio, television or on the internet) and distributing the royalties that they have collected to the composers and publishers, proportionally to the size of the audience and the number of times the music is played.

How much money does bmi collect?

I worked as a licensing executive for BMI back in 2001. As I recall, at the time BMI, ASCPA and SESAC all together collected only about $4 billion dollars. Pretty small numbers when you consider that this money has to be divied up to all songwriters and publishers across the entire wolrd. THE MORE TELLING number is how much BMI keeps for themselves. THIS WILL SHOCK YOU................probably disappoint you, too. At the time I worked for them, BMI returned something like 92% of EVERYTHING they collected to the songwriters and publishers. Pretty impressive that they can pay rent, utilities, lawyers, staff, advertizing and salaries, on a slim 8% of what they collect. Remember, these Performance Rights Organizations (BMI, ASCAP, SESAC) are Not-For-Profit organizations.

What do ASCAP BMI and SESAC stand for?

The American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP), Broadcast Music Inc. (BMI), and the Society of European Stage Authors and Composers (SESAC) are performing rights organizations based in the United States. They collect fees for affiliated composers and songwriters when their works are performed (including broadcast).

How do you collect royalties for a song you produced?

The record company that makes the album should be sending you royalty checks if you have signed a contract as produced of a song they publish. If you produced the song for a flat fee with no sales percentage split in a contract, you can't collect royalties. In the US, companies like ASCAP distribute royalties for songs played on tv and radio. In Canada, SOCAN does the same.

What is the purpose of ascap hmu and sesac?

ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers), HMU (Harvard Music Union), and SESAC (Society of European Stage Authors and Composers) are organizations that represent songwriters, composers, and music publishers. They also provide resources and support for their members, including advocacy for copyright protections and educational opportunities in the music industry.

No, you do not have to pay anything to collect a prize from Publlisher's Clearinghouse or from any other legitimate contest; if anyone tells you that you have won a prize but you have to give them a payment in order to collect it, they are just trying to rob you.
