Both electronic music and hip-hop have strong and definite beats. Both make use of synthesizers (electronic keyboards) and therefore have a very mechanical sound. rap, however, has a much more lyrical focus, and some rap is considered poetry. Also, there is a larger focus on the beat, and less of a focus on actual musical notes. electronic music has less lyrics, and more of a musical sound. (not saying that that rap isn't music.... hah).
