When he was born, he was born "effectively dead". He was born 3 weeks early and spent the first 4 years of his life in and out of the hospital. Eventually, they figured out that his kidney did not work and was scarred. So he has 2 kidneys, but only one of them works.
Well, when he was born he was effectively dead. Doctors fixed that up and since he was born 3 weeks early he kept getting sick. He spent 4 years in the hospital having tests done. The doctors discovered that one of his kidneys wasn't working properly. He'd get 32 injections in his arm at morning and night to make it better. He still has his other kidney but it's basically dead so....he technically does have one kidney.

What else can I help you with?
