The switching is done within the transmission by internal pressure. YOu may just be low on fluid. I have had this happen to my 93 topaz three times (plus a fourth that happened before I got the car). Every time it happened the fluid level was full. The tranny used (ATX) on the topaz has a governor on it. If the governor is not set right it will not shift. I have had to have the governor gear replaced Dec. 2005 because of this. Once you have one problem with the transmission you may have problems the rest of the car's life. I am now on my 4th transmission.

What causes a 1997 Mercury Sable to jerk sometimes when you have stopped and begin to move again?

A common cause of jerking when starting to move in a 1997 Mercury Sable could be a problem with the transmission. This could be due to low transmission fluid levels, a faulty transmission filter, or issues with the transmission solenoid. It is recommended to have the transmission system checked by a mechanic to diagnose and address the issue.

Why does your 1992 Cabriolet automatic looses power during stop and go traffic?

The 1992 Cabriolet automatic may lose power during stop-and-go traffic due to issues with the transmission, such as slipping or overheating. It could also be caused by a clogged fuel filter, faulty ignition components, or a problem with the engine's air intake system. It is recommended to have the vehicle inspected by a mechanic to diagnose and address the specific cause of the power loss.

Why would a 1994 Mercury Topaz only start with the transmission in the neutral position?

This could indicate an issue with the neutral safety switch, which prevents the engine from starting unless the transmission is in either Park or Neutral. The switch may be malfunctioning or misaligned, causing the car to only start in Neutral. It is recommended to have the neutral safety switch checked and potentially replaced by a professional mechanic.

What causes a vechile to move forward while in drive and possible causes?

A vehicle moves forward when in drive due to the transmission transferring power from the engine to the wheels. Possible causes for a vehicle not moving forward in drive could include low transmission fluid, a faulty transmission solenoid, a defective torque converter, or a worn-out clutch (for manual transmissions).

1996 4Runner ATP light?

The A/T P (automatic transmission park) indicator on the dash normally illuminates when the vehicle may be in danger of drifting, due to the transfer case being shifted into neutral. This (drift) can happen even when the transmission is in park - since the transfer case effectively disconnects the upper drivetrain, when shifted out-of-gear. If the transfer case is properly shifted in H or L ranges (not neutral) and the indicator is illuminated, then there may be an adjustment needed in linkages or switch positions or even a malfunction in the circuit, such as a bad switch (i.e neutral safety, transfer indicator) or in the other associated electrical components. The Toyota A340F transmission manual contains troubleshooting procedures for determining such malfunctions, including the false indication of an A/T P lamp, (visible on the dash combination meter).

Why would your Nissan altima 97 auto transmission be shifting gears too early?

If the 1997 Nissan Altima with an automatic transmission is shifting gears too early, it could be that the shift solenoid for the transmission is faulty. Both the shift solenoid and the speed sensor on the transmission should be checked.

Mercury mariner wont go forward or backwards?

If your Mercury Mariner won't go forward or backwards, it may indicate a transmission issue such as low fluid levels, a faulty transmission control module, or a problem with the torque converter. It is recommended to have the vehicle inspected by a qualified mechanic to diagnose and repair the issue.

Why would dodge ram 1500truck 1999 lack power?

What does a flashing 'F' light mean on a Corsa automatic?

It means the fuel is low. No it doesn't! It means that there a Fault with the automatic transmission. As it says in the manual, when this F appears it indicates a serious problem with the automatic transmission electronics and you should get it seen to asap. THIS means there is a fault and in 9 out of 10 cases it is a faulty crank shaft sensor as i have just replaced one the cost is about £9 and a easy fix it is located next to the oil sump

Why won't my 18 speed eaton fuller automatic transmission shift?

Is yours an autoshift, or a fully automatic transmission? With the autoshifts, the synchroniser has a bad tendency to go out because of improper clutch manipulation. This shouldn't be an issue with a fully automatic transmission, however, and if that's what yours is, the first two culprits would be faulty circuitry in the transmission computer, or poor coordination between the computer in the transmission and the engine computer (this was a recurring problem for Allision automatics coupled to Detroit Diesel motors). There should be a way of reading off fault codes from the transmission, but that's going to probably require you to go to a mechanic with the necessary computer software to do such.

1989 bronco wont start but has power and does not click?

# Battery connections loose or corroded # Battery discharged or faulty # Transmission not completely engaged in park or neutral # Broken, loose or disconnected wiring in the starting circuit # Starter motor pinion jammed # Starter solenoid faulty # Starter motor faulty # Ignition switch faulty or NSS neutral safety switch bad. If it's a manual transmission there is also a safety for the clutch. If it's an automatic, there is a shorting plug. In either case this switch may be bad also.
