Red color in acidic solutions and blue color in basic solutions.
Litmus paper: red color in acidic solutions and blue color in basic solutions.Phenolphthalein: no color in acidic solutions.
Red litmus paper is used to test for acids. If the red litmus paper turns blue when dipped in a substance, it indicates the presence of an acid.
An acid would turn blue litmus paper red. Acids have a pH below 7, which makes them capable of changing the color of blue litmus paper to red. Examples of common household acids include vinegar (acetic acid) and lemon juice (citric acid).
Blue litmus paper turns red in acid and stays blue in a base.

Acid turns it in red, while base will turn it blue.
When acids and alkalis are mixed, the pH of the solution changes. Indicators such as litmus paper will change color based on the new pH. Acids turn blue litmus paper red, while alkalis turn red litmus paper blue.
Blue only bases or acids change litmus paper and 7 is neutral
