The sun is at a certain spot in the sky each year at the moment of the Vernal Equinox. That spot is often called "The Vernal Equinox". This location is space is useful for a few reasons. One problem is that because of various movements of the earth's orbit, this spot is slowly moving; it is not fixed along with the distant stars.
