Home inspections are always noninvasive. The reason is that the home inspection is typically done for the benefit of the buyer, and they don't own the home... Yet. Obviously one could perform a far more comprehensive home inspection if allowed to remove all of the floor coverings and get a good look at the floor system - checking for signs of movement, pest and water damage, etc., but that's just not possible and the owner, or seller would certainly not appreciate having their house torn up during the home inspection!

What technique would you use to sample organisms living in a tree?

To sample organisms living in a tree, I would use a combination of visual inspection and trapping methods. Visual inspection can help identify visible organisms, such as insects and birds, while using sticky traps or pitfall traps at the base of the tree can capture crawling or flying species. Additionally, using a tree climber or a bucket truck can facilitate access to higher branches for sampling. Collecting leaf litter and bark samples can also provide insights into the microfauna present.
