Well here is what I suggest... I think they may be scavengers... I did a test and left a dead bug in a room and ants came to it... they have literally cut the bug in half and are either feasting off of it or taking it back to their home. I have not found any professional documentations of this. But I do know what I have seen with my own eyes in my experiment.
