The technological hurdles of safely travelling to the planet Mercury and back are formidable, to say the least. The first would be radiation. Once a human has left the Earth's magnetosphere, they will no longer have any protection from the damaging particles streaming from the sun, along with dangerous cosmic rays. Next would be heat. Shedding heat from the parts spacecraft that faces the sun at such a close distance would be very hard. Finally, the gravitational effects of the sun would make the energy expenditures for the trip home much higher than the trip there. This would lengthen the trip further, exposing the travelers to even more damaging radiation.
