The Great Schism of 1054 was a pivotal moment in religious history , as

it saw the permanent break between the Eastern Orthodox and Western

Roman Catholic churches . It was the result of a long period of

estrangement between the two churches .

There were several reasons for the break between the two churches , but

the primary ones were the following : disputes over papal authority - the

Roman pope claimed he had authority over the four Eastern patriarchs ,

while the four patriarchs claimed that the pope 's power was only

honorary and therefore , he only had authority over Western Christendom -

and disputes over the filioque clause into the Nicene creed - the

Eastern churches included the Latin version of the phrase ``and the

son ' in the Nicene creed , while the Western churches left it out .

There were also political aspects at play , the most important being the

issue of power . For the popes and for the patriarchs , it was well

understood that whoever had religious dominance would also have

political dominance as well . Therefore , it was important for either side

to assert their precedence over the other , as this would prove the power

of one over the other .

Ultimately , the two churches have never truly reunited . While several

attempts have been made , none have been completely successful . Each side

maintains the belief that it is the one holy and apostolic Church , thus

implying that the other is not the true church . This debate of what the

true church is will continue to exist as long as people choose to pick

and choose what they want to accept in regards to the teachings of the

Bible...

This means that propane torches are generally hotter and more suitable for tasks that require higher heat levels, such as metalworking or plumbing.
