You certainly could could do damage to your thoracic spine. If the vertabra between the shoulder blades were displaced or injured or contorted it could refer the injury to the front and cause inflammation or possibly a crack. I'm no doctor but I will say that the upper back, shoulders, collar bones, sternum and neck are all a bit of a symphony and if one is compromised it can affect any an all of the others. Suggest reading on costochondritis
