Mass and CapacityCapacity is another word for volume, which is the amount of space occupied by an object. Both mass and volume are extensive attributes of an object; that is, both depend upon the amount of stuff you have.

Mass and capacity are independent of each other. A more massive (heavier) object made of a certain substance -- think gold -- may occupy far less space than a less massive (lighter) one made from a different substance -- think Styrofoam.

But if you have objects made of the same substance, then a relationship between the two attributes can be established. The ratio of a substance's mass to its volume is called its mass density. The formula is simple: P = m/v, where P (the Greek letter rho) is the density. For example, if you have a ten kilograms of stuff and it occupies two cubic meters (of space), its mass density is five kilograms per cubic meter (kg/m3).

So, to calculate mass density, divide an object's mass by its volume. Further, if you know an object's mass density and its volume, you can calculate its mass, and if you know an object's mass density and its mass, you can calculate its volume.

What metric unit would you use to measure the mass or capacity of a dime?

The mass of any coin is typically measured in grams; the capacity or volume would be measured in millilitres.

Who uses the metric units of mass and capacity?

Metric units of mass and capacity are used globally, particularly in countries that have adopted the metric system as their official measurement standard, such as most nations in Europe, Asia, and Africa. Scientists and researchers also universally use metric units for consistency and precision in data reporting. Additionally, industries such as pharmaceuticals, food production, and manufacturing rely on metric measurements for accuracy in formulations and compliance with regulations.

What is metric convertion?

Metric converter is used for all types of conversions, such as distance, length, volume, mass conversion, etc. Now you can convert all these units on your mobile by using online conversion site converterin.

Are gallons and kilograms related?

They are not related. A kilogram is a measure of mass in the metric system. A gallon is an imperial measurement of liquid capacity.

What is English metric conversion?

First, there is no "English". Second, there are hundreds on conversion factors between the near-obsolete (conventional) and metric systems. For mass alone, for example, there are conversions from grain to milligram, ounce to gram, pound to kilogram, stone to kilogram, hundredweight to kilogram, Imperial ton to metric ton. There are more that these.

What is the shape of metric system?

The metric system is based on multiples of ten, making it a decimal system. This means that units are related by powers of 10, making conversions between different units easy and efficient. The standard units in the metric system include meters for length, grams for mass, and liters for volume.

What is a system of measurement based on ten?

Matter is defined as that which has mass and occupies space. There are procedures to measure both. Even if you can't measure the mass of an object directly (such as a gas), you can still determine it's mass by measuring the space it occupies. Pressure is one way to measure the mass of gas by the amount of space it occupies.
