A vascular system is the group of veins, arteries, and capillaries designed primarily to transport oxygen and nutrients throughout a human or animal's body.

Beginning with the heart, which functions as a pump, Red blood cells, which carry oxygen and other nutrients, and white blood cells, which function as defense mechanisms, are pushed through a series of arteries and into veins, where they are transported to the lungs to be infused with oxygen molecules. They are then shuttled off to the farthest extremities. Capillaries return the used blood cells to the heart, and the system repeats.
