Mercury (Hermes) was son of the union between Zeus and Maia. There is nothing mentioned in poems and songs about his brothers and sisters (if there were any) but he did have half-brothers and half-sisters because Zeus was his father. In this way, Apollo, Ares Athena and many of the other Olympians were his brothers and sisters. You can read much more about his adventures with the family of the Olympians in "Hermes the Olympian" a book available on Amazon.com.
Mercury was named after the Roman god because he was the god of travel, communication, and messenger of the gods - qualities that were associated with the fast-moving planet in the sky. Additionally, the planet's swift orbit around the sun was believed to be symbolic of Mercury's speed and agility.
The Romans named the planet Mercury in ancient times, and later Europeans adopted it. The messenger god Mercury was the Roman form of the earlier Greek god Hermes.
Mercury was the messenger-god of Jupiter, and was the god of games, of business, and of story telling. He was the offspring of the god Jupiter and Maia. Maia herself was and one of the Pleiades, daughters of the titan Atlas. Mercury was identified with the Greek god Hermes.
