As a Japanese born in Japan, I can tell you that not many Japanese actually have brown hair.. and those that do are not looked on with favor (be it natural or by bleaching). Even in schools you will hear teachers talking about "chappatsu"(brown hair), when they are referring to a students' problematic or delinquent behavior. Brown to dark brown eyes is what you typically see. You will never see "black" eyes as the previous person mentioned. When studying anything having to do with anatomy and genetics; one quickly learns that "black" eyes do not actually exist and is genetically impossible. Melanin only exists in shades of brown... It is the level of melanin in hair, skin, and eyes that determine color.
Lighter eyes such as blue, green, hazel, and grey are a little more complicated to explain, but is actually linked to a VERY harmless birth defect, very much like a person being albino.
