I'm not entirely sure but I can imagine them to be much like dogs - if you threaten them, they will defend themselves by attacking you. Maybe if you hang around them and they see you as a threat, they would attack you. Dogs are direct descendents of hyenas, so you would expect them to behave in the same way. Hope I have helped. Elephants are probably the largest living mammals on earth. They don't have any natural predators that can attack a full grown elephant. However, In Africa lions and packs of hyenas have been known to attack an injured or extremely old elephant or an elephant calf that has strayed away from its herd. In Asia, a large adult Tiger or a Lion can attack a young elephant calf. Humans are the biggest enemies to elephants in all its habitats. Armed with guns hunters and poachers are the biggest threat to elephant numbers.
Polar bears are apex predators. Only humans regularly hunt and kill them.
Hyenas enemies usually are humans, large rhinos, lions, elephants, and other large animals. Most large cats are enemies with the Hyena. Although, whoever tries to attack a Hyena must be mad. Hyenas could kill a cheetah in a split second with it's bone-crushing jaws. Hyenas have a stronger bite than the African lion, but due to it's build, there's a possibility of it retreating or getting killed. Hyenas would compete for territory or kill intruders when they enter so it's usually enemies with trespassers and intruders. If it was casually walking along and came upon a lion, it would usually simply walk off, but if it chased it, the Hyena would obviously retaliate.

Humans are the only predator that a elephant has. ADDENDUM: Humans are not elephants' only predator. Elephants are also hunted by lions, hyenas and wild dogs. Elephant calves are far more vulnerable to attacks from these predators and are frequently taken from the mother if there are no other adult elephants to help her defend her offspring. Large groups of lions have learned how to attack and kill juvenile elephants who have wandered away from the herd and lone adult elephants, too. These carnivores have to have large enough numbers and be hungry enough, though, to risk such a dangerous undertaking.
Besides humans, wolves, coyotes, cougars and bears eat cows. In Africa, Lions, Tigers, Hyenas, Leopard, Cheeta, and Jackal eat them. In South America, you will find Foxes, Jaguars and wolves feeding on cows.
