The optimum pH for human catalase is approximately 7, and has a fairly broad maximum (the rate of reaction does not change appreciably at pHs between 6.8 and 7.5). It doesn't work as well above 7.5 or below 6.8.

enzymatic activity is pH specific. Alteration of pH of media causes ionization of amino acids. Acidic amino acids have additional carboxyl functional groups . Basic amino acids have additional amino functional groups As a result of ionization, 3-D structure existing on the base of IONIC BONDS is altered. Moreover shape is also effected. catalytic activiyty is effected.
Solids do not have a pH because pH is a measure of the concentration of hydrogen ions in a solution. Since solids are not in solution, they do not have free hydrogen ions to measure pH. pH can only be measured in aqueous solutions.
Well, first of all you need to know how pHs work. Acids have a pH from numbers 1 to 6, with 1 the strongest. Alkalis have pH numbers from 8 to 14, with 14 the strongest. Therefore 7 is neutral because it is inbetween. When you add an acid to an alkali, depending on its' pH level, it moves towards neutral. Hope this helps
