To be honest, it is estimated but Scientists also estimated that i think it was in 2006 that the Sun would die...However this did not occur. Astronomy proves that the Sun is only half-way through the life cycle of a Star. So it can not be confirmed, it can just be predicted.

If it does happen, it will be a solar flash, which is the sun getting way too close to earth, then heating up too hot, and then traveling away.

The term "solar flash" is unknown - presumably it's a dilation ("expansion") of the sun's outer "atmosphere" to the point that it massively raises the Earth's temperature.

Although the sun will expand over astronomical time, this cannot happen within the next two years.

The critical part of the question is "if the world ends in 2012...".

No scientific theory predicts or permits this occurrence.

My opinion is that the Mayas thought that since they had no enemies left, they would last until 2012. Also, their calendar is in a circular motion, so they thought the world would just start spinning in the opposite direction that it is spinning in now, and time would reverse and continue to do the same thing over and over again.

For it to reverse direction, there must be some gigantic mass much more massive than the earth with fluid coupling (like a ball suspended between two rubber bands and wound up) into which the earth's rotational energy is being dumped, and from which that rotational energy can be re-acquired and transferred back to the earth once it has come to rest and cause it to reverse direction- again, like the ball on the rubber band.


The rate of acceleration implies a turning force of many teranewtons - probably more. If you'd like some homework, try it.

No, 2012 is nothing more than a myth. Just alot of hype about a specific year. Its happened before and it will happen again,over and over again, yawn! People need to brag about something,anything. Its the silly nature of being human. Anyway,WHERES THE PROOF? ANSWER= Just talk,talk and more talk, but no solid proof.

The mayans never predicted the end of the world. December 21, 2012 is simply the end of their calander. They predicted all the eclipses and all the equinoxes without error and they were an ancient civilization.

Publicity and assumptions are responsible for the "end of the world" rumor. Nobody really knows if it will happen. But my guess is, not.
