Mercury the element is not really named after mercury the heavenly body: both are named after the Roman messenger god, Mercury.

Similarly it is unclear whether uranium is named after uranus the planet or Uranus the mythical Roman god.

Neptunium and plutonium definitely are named after the planets, and there is also selenium, named after the moon, and helium, named after the sun.

Comment: There's more too, but they're not really named after the planets

and heavenly bodies. It's just that the planets, etc and the elements are both

named after the same things. I agree that historically there was a connection

between the planets names and the naming of elements.
