A solution contains two things. A solute (the thing which is dissolved) and the solvent (the thing it's dissolved into). For example to make salt-water, you dissolve the solute (salt) into the solvent (water).

A concentrated solution has a lot of solute, compared to the amount of solvent. There are two ways to concentrate a solution.

1) adding more solute.

2) removing some of the solvent (usually through evaporation).

A dilute solution is the opposite, it has very little solute in there. The two ways of diluting a solution are;

1) adding more solvent.

2) removing some of the solute.

Most solutions have a point of saturation, where the maximum amount of solute has been added. This is the maximum concentration of the solution.

Scientific term for weak solution?

Dilute

Why is a concentrated acid not strong?

strong acids and bases dissociate completely; weak acids and bases dissociate only partially. In contrast, the term dilute and concentrated are used to indicate the consentration of a solution, which is the amount of acid or base dissolved in the solution. It is possible to have dilute solutions of strong acids and bases and concentrated solutions of weak acids and bases.

What term is used by chemist to quantitatively describe a solution in which a relatively small amount of solute is dissolve?

Dilute

What is the scientific term for a strong solution?

The scientific term for a strong solution is a concentrated solution. This means that there is a high amount of solute dissolved in the solvent, resulting in a high concentration of the solute in the solution.

Why is the term dilute not a precise way to describe concentration?

Concentrated solutions have high amounts of the solute (i.e 8 molar HCl in water) as opposed to a dilute version may have very little of the solute and be mainly water (i.e. 0.1 Molar HCl in water).

What is another word for a high percentage of solution?

The term to describe such a solution is CONCENTRATED.
