Because of financial and family reasons, Marie Curie was deprived of opportunities to education. Nonetheless, she became motivated and devoted to the work of discovering about science. Marie Curie was the first woman to receive a Nobel Prize; her dedication opened doors and gave hope to other female scientists. Listed as one of the 100 most influential Women in History, Marie Curie was exceedingly prominent and acknowledged, not only by researchers, but also by historians and the general public. Besides her discoveries, Marie Curie made further great influences. During World War I, her position as the director of the Red Cross radiology Service saved myriad number of soldiers. With X-rays, she realized that it would assist doctors to spot bullets and broken bones in bodies. Then Marie persuaded the government to allow her to set up France's first military radiology. For that reason, the French enlisted men transported X-ray equipment to the injured at the battle front. In determination, Curie learned how to drive a car and trained her daughter, Irene, to become a radiologist so they would be able to facilitate the battle front radiological installation. Throughout the war, Marie was engage took on tasks in equipping 20 vans that operated as a mobile field hospitals and fixing over 200 installations with X-ray apparatus. "The use of X-rays during the war saved the lives of many wounded men; it also saved many from long suffering and lasting infirmity" (Science of radioactivity). In recognition of her work in radioactivity, she received the second Nobel Prize Award, this time in chemistry. The discovery of radium was thought to be the most significant in modern physics ever since the discovery of oxygen. In addition to the fact that she was the first woman to be honored with a Nobel Prize, she became the first woman to be appointed a professor at the Sorbonne. This phenomenon furthermore confirmed the capability of women. On July 4, 1934, Maria Sklodowska-Curie passed away of leukemia. Ironically, it was found that this specific type of leukemia was aplastic anaemia, which is caused by radium exposure. With all honor and respect, the French Government relocated her ashes, with those of Pierre, to the Pantheon in Paris in April 1995.More often than not, the Pantheon is the memorial to the nation's great men. Marie Curie was the only woman to be respected for her personal triumph. "Few persons contributed more to the general welfare of mankind and to the advancement of science than the modest, self-effacing woman whom the world knew as Madame Curie" (Women's History). Madame Curie was the first women to be esteemed in such a means for the success she reached in all fields of science. Overcoming the barrier of sex and economic means is what ultimately made Marie Curie become one of the most influential scientist and researcher in modern science.
