algae are autotrophs. algae use photosynthesis to convert light energy into food.
Algae and other plants make their own food from sunlight, so they are producers.
Algae and fungi posses characteristics that make them unique among all the organisms. Algae are different from plants because they perform cell division in a very different way, their reproductive structures are completely nude, while in plants the reproductive structures are covered with a sterile layer of cells. Fungi lack photosynthetic machinery, which differences them from algae, plants and some bacteria. So, fungi and algae posses a wide range of characteristics that are enough to separate them from other kingdoms and have their own.
Algae are simple, photosynthetic organisms that lack true roots, stems, and leaves, while plants are more complex and have specialized structures for different functions. Moreover, algae do not have reproductive structures like flowers, fruits, or seeds, while plants do. Additionally, algae can range from single-celled to multicellular forms, whereas plants are mostly multicellular.
Lichen is a mixture of algae / cyanobacteria and fungi. Lichens may look like plants but they do not reproduce with flowers. Lichens do not have roots like plants. They grow on plants as a substrate not as a parasite.
The autotrophs that are the main producers of tidal flats and salt marshes are algae. Algae can also be found in other environments as well.
While algae is a plant, it differs from other plants by lacking a stem and a root
algae and any other live plants are the producers.
Algae IS a plant. It gets energy from the sun, not other plants.
Non-vascular plants
Algae and other plants make their own food from sunlight, so they are producers.

Algae was the dominant plant of the Ordovician. There were little to no other plants (other then algae) during the Ordovician. In the Ordovician, the common types of algae were Stromatolites (Blue green algae), and Tetradium (Red algae).
