Very difficulty..

First you hire a geologist to look at areas and find what he thinks is a "play" or potential spot with oil.

Then you hire a surveyor to come and perform seismic surveys to try and look underground. Think of it as a really big ultrasound machine.

If they confirm oil then you program a well which is basically figuring out where to drill, how deep, how much angle, how big of a hole.

Then you contact all the service companies and have them bid out their services.

You obtain the necessary permits from the government.

You bring in a drilling rig and "rig up" and begin drilling.

Once you drill the well you call in the well loggers to test the well to see if it is a viable source of oil.

If not your out your money... Tough luck.

If it is

You hire a completion rig and have them install the hardware necessary to get the oil out of the ground.

run pipes from the well to a tank farm or refinery.

sell your oil...

What is the difference between oil gas gasolline and petrol?

Petroleum (petrol) is a liquid obtained from the underground, usually. Gasoline, diesel, and some other products are derived from petroleum. Oil may refer to petroleum, or to several other substances - like the oil you use to cook food, which is unrelated to petroleum. Gas may refer to gasolene (in some countries), to natural gas (also obtained from petroleum), or to lots of other substances that are gaseous, like the air we breathe. (Note that gasolene is NOT gaseous.)
