There is no perticular reason why the rainforests where formed. It could be said that the rainforests where formed to slow down the greenhouse gas effect and slow down global warming, or maybe just to provide a home for the animals and tribal people. Mountain ranges block the flow of atmospheric moisture. On the windward side of the mountains where the rain is forced to fall, rainforests often develop. On the leeward side no rain falls and deserts form. A good example is in South America. Moisture from the Atlantic flows westward. When it hits the Andes Mountains it is lifted up and forms rain storms that drop that moisture as rain on the eastern slopes forming the Amazon rainforests. No moisture makes it to the western side and a rain shadow desert forms. In South America that is the Atacama and Sechura Deserts

They sure do. Rainbow formation requires sunlight and moisture in the air which rainforests frequently experience. This doesn't mean a rainbow will form every time both of these situations are present though.
