Knudsen Gauge is among the few devices that were invented to measure pressures of the order of 10^-3 to 10^-6 torr(1 torr is equal to 1mm column of a Mercury), i.e, very low pressures or degrees of vacuum.Other devices in this category include McLeod Gauge, Ionisation Gauge, Pirani Gauge and Thermocouple. It consists of two suspending vanes which are joint to make a rectangular frame suspended by a fibre.Further a mirror is fitted in the fibre to note the deviations of the pressure. Two fixed heated plated are located opposite to these vanes.Low pressure gas comes into the vessel through the inlet hole .The momentum of the heated particles is not altered by the fixed heated plates while this momentum causes the deflection of cooler vanes which is noted by the mirror using a lens mechanism. The expression for the pressure inside the vessel is : Pi= KF/[(Ts/Tm-1)^1/2] . Here K= constant for the gauge, F= Force which can be evaluated from the deflection and the elastic constants of the suspension fibre.

Ts=Temperature of the stationary sheets,Tm= Temperature of the moving sheets.

Is a rain gauge used to measure air pressure?

No, A rain gauge is used to measure precipitation. However, a barometer is used to measure air pressure. Have you ever heard of CoCoRaHS? They use volunteers to measure precipitation across the nation. It's one of the related links.

To measure a pressure above atmospheric pressure you would use?

A pressure gauge or manometer is typically used to measure pressure above atmospheric pressure. These devices can accurately measure the pressure difference between the system being measured and atmospheric pressure.

Doug wants to find out how increasing a gas's pressure can affect the gas's temperature What tool will Doug need in order to conduct his experiment?

Doug will need a pressure gauge to measure the pressure of the gas, a temperature gauge to measure the temperature of the gas, and a container to hold the gas while adjusting the pressure.

How do you measure the wilting point by pressure gauge?

To measure the wilting point using a pressure gauge, you would slowly decrease the pressure in the soil using the gauge until the plant begins to show signs of wilting. The pressure reading at which this wilting occurs is considered the wilting point. This method helps determine the soil moisture level at which plants start to experience water stress.

What is the name of the instrument to measure pressure?

A manometer is used to measure pressure. It typically consists of a U-shaped tube filled with fluid that responds to changes in pressure by moving the fluid levels.

Can bourdon's tube pressure gauge be used to measure negative pressure?

Bourdon's tube pressure gauge cannot be used to measure negative pressure. This is because absolute pressure must be measured and the Bourdon gauge only indicates the gauge pressure.

Definition of a compound gauge?

A compound gauge is a pressure gauge that displays both negative and positive gauge pressure measurements. Gauge pressure is a measurement of pressure relative to ambient pressure. For example, if ambient pressure was 14.7 PSI and you were to measure absolute vaccum using a compound gauge, the gauge would indicate -14.7 PSI.

Name the instruments used to measure air pressure ans rainfall?

The barometer is used to measure air pressure while the rain gauge is used to measure the amount of rainfall.
