There's nothing to prevent a wildfire being caused by lightning (other than tracking strikes with GPS and sending crews to check on them) but all other reasons are basically man-related, and preventable. Don't throw cigarettes out the window of the car, don't mow 3 feet of grass with a lawnmower that's made to mow 6 inches, don't try to make a pot farm in the middle of the forest, don't play with fireworks during the summer time. Do keep a line of bare soil around any campfire or burn pile, Do report arsonists, Do keep matches/fireworks out of the hands of the youngins, Do keep an eye out while you're driving for smoke. That's all we can do. Educating the public on how these things happen is the main way that we try to prevent them. Wildfires are part of the history of our planet and will always occur, but we can have much less damage if we can prevent the human errors that cause them.
