Garmin has a free program on their website call POI loader (POI stands for Point of Interest). According to Garmin tech support, you can load from 1-1.6 MILLION custom point of interest into your Garmin, depending on model.

Build a .csv file containing longitude, latitude, text1, text2. Save this in a folder on your PC. If you have several folders (e.g. "Grocery Stores" folder, then kroger.csv, foodlion.csv) the POI loader duplicates this structure. Just run POI loader, tell it where the folder containing the file(s) is, and the software does the rest. Loading the files into the garmin takes about 2 minutes. To access your custom points of interest, click where to, custom, then your menus show up. You can search them just like the built-in POIs, or just wait and the software will show them - closest one first.
