Many scriptures say that he died from eating "bad pork" (yes, Buddhists can eat meat as long as it is blameless) However, it isn't known if they mean pork as in pig or pork as in the fungi.

The Buddha died of old age, when he was eighty years old. The death was triggered by his body reaction to a dish of wild mushroom. He died peacefully and mindfully.
