Exobiology speculates that microscopic life originated elsewhere and was brought here by a meteorite sent off by some violent distaster, which while it has not been proven is very scientifically plausible, as germs and viruses have proven to be able to survive in outer space and there is a gigantic gash on mars (a planet with water likely to have once supported life) which could have sent such a meteorite into outer space. Also, since comets are thought to be made substantially of water ice, it is theorized that they are the primary source of earth's water. It may seem unlikely, but in the early stages of earth's development there were probably many, many more comets than there are today, and it is not impossible that enough comets could have collided with earth over millions of years to supply us with our water.

What do comets have in common with earth?

Both comets and Earth are celestial bodies located in our solar system. Comets are composed of ice, dust, and rocky material, similar to the materials present on Earth. Additionally, both comets and Earth experience gravitational forces from the sun that affect their orbits and movements.

How can comets and asteroids affect earth?

Comets and asteroids can potentially impact Earth, causing damage due to the energy released upon impact. They can also bring valuable resources to our planet, such as water and metals. Additionally, dust and gas released by comets passing close to Earth can affect our atmosphere and climate.

Is it possible comets may have any influence in the earths' weather or cycles even the orbit variances?

Comets have a very low mass compared to Earth, so any affect they will have on Earth is from impacts which will affect the global weather.

Does comets go the earth?

How has comets helped the study of space?

Comets come from the coldest parts of the universe and contain ice and organic materials. Scientists believe that impacts from comets on earth are responsible for contributing to organic materials and possibly life on earth.

What was the first comet that hit earth?

Impossible to say. Comets have been striking the earth since before life evolved on the earth

What is the 'extrinsic catastrophist' theory of comets?

The extrinsic catastrophist theory of comets suggests that comets originate from outside the solar system and are responsible for catastrophic events on Earth, such as mass extinctions. This theory proposes that comets carry organic materials that may have influenced the development of life on Earth.

Is there ability to support life on comets?

No. Comets are too cold to support life.

What things do humans believe comets brought to earth before life began?

Some scientists, notably Sir Fred Hoyle, believed that comets were a substantial source of water for the Earth. It's even possible that life itself came from space as microscopic spores or bacteria.

Which of these hit the earth comets or asteroids?

It is possible for comets and asteroids to hit Earth, but they are extremely rare events.
