A group of Japanese scientists is planning great nets of seaweed (sargassum and Sostera marina) off the coast of Japan. The nets would measure six miles by six miles and would fill with quick-growing seaweed, growing at the rate of 270,000 tonnes a year.

This seawood would absorb vast amounts of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, store the carbon and release the oxygen.

After a year the seaweed would be harvested and used for biomass energy.

Korea is using seaweed to produce bio-diesel.

Both these methods will help reduce the speed of global warming.

Kelp is seaweed, a plant. All plants remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, so kelp does that too. Carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is causing the enhanced (or accelerated) greenhouse effect which is responsible for global warming, so anything that removes it helps to prevent global warming.
