They're made from super-absorbent polymers (classified as hydrogels) that can absorb and retain extremely large amounts of a liquid relative to their own mass, thus increasing both size and volume. (This is the same type of material found in disposable baby diapers, adult protective underwear, and feminine menstrual pads.)
The total absorbency and swelling capacity of SAPs are controlled in part by the type and degree of cross-linking to the polymer, but it's also determined greatly by the ionic concentration of the absorbed aqueous solution. Deionized and distilled water can absorb up to ten times more mass than non-distilled, partially salinated water (i.e. tap water). This means that, if a toy can grow up to up to 5 times its own size in tap water, it might grow up to 50 times its size in deionized distilled water.
So if you use deionized distilled water, you really can grow your own life-size girlfriend or pirate ship.
Grow your own in water toys typically use non-toxic materials, but it's important to check the packaging for specific safety information. Some products may contain chemicals that could be harmful if ingested or used improperly. Always supervise children during play and ensure that the toys are age-appropriate. If you have concerns, look for toys that are labeled as BPA-free or made from safe, non-toxic materials.
They were called sea monkeys. They were actually brine shrimp eggs you added to salty water. There are small toys made from Polyacrylamide a water absorbing polymer which is very similar to the material used in diapers. Very different from sea monkeys.
Plastic toys have been around for some time. Nowadays, the majority of outdoor toys are American plastic toys. Such as slides, water activity toys and much more.
well plants grow better in regular water but if they get any water they will still grow
Yes but not without the nutrients and oxygen available in soil, there is a way to grow plants without soil, it is called Hydroponics. Hydroponically grown plants are grown in a solution of water containing the necessary plant nutrients.
keep them in the water
The Futaba 3VCS will work great for water toys.
Growing toys are toys that expands in water as they are made up of a material that absorbs so much water that they increase their size as much as 300% or more. That material is not toxic but should still not be digested by children. These toys usually does not last very long especially if you have grown them at their maximum size.

Psychology teaches where adults will "work," play is children's "work." They are working at and learning to grow into adulthood as they play.
