Along with this they can make comparisons in other locations and make determinations about when these samples existed and even what kind of life forms, if any existed at the time.

In other situations a geologist can examine the building materials used in ancient structures such as temples and pyramids and make estimates of when and where the stones or other natural building materials originated.
