Differentiating the sex of some species can get a little tricky. Of course in the human, all you have to do is look at the genitalia. If that doesn't work, you take a buccal (inner cheek) scraping, put it on a microscope slide, stain the sample and look for a dark spot near the nuclear membrane which is called a Barr Body. If the spot is present, the individual is definitely female as the Barr Body is the inactivated second X- chromosome (females are XX & males are XY). Most mammals are easily sexually identified, if you know how to look. Birds can be a little tricky, as are amphibians, snakes and some fish. For most common animals, if you need to know ask your local vet for identification help.
The difference is that male is a boy and female is a girl.

Difference between male and female sperm?

Although only males produce sperm, that does not mean that all sperm is male. There are two types of sperm: male and female. Male sperm carry the 'y' chromosome; female sperm carry the 'x' chromosome. If all sperm where male, then there would be no females born. Thus, the difference between male and female sperm is that male sperm carries the 'y' chromosome and produces male offspring and female sperm carries the 'x' chromosome and produces female offspring.
