I have had the same problem but when trying to get a number pad and a remote to work on the same opener has been a challenge! I can get either to work but I can not get both Suggestions I have two openers #1 Craftsman 139.53672 SRT1 mfg date 9-97 Key pad does not work (yes that sucks) #2 Craftsman 139.53910 mfg date 8-04 works like a charm go figure.
