The third law states: For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.

As the Octopus thrusts its legs, the force caused by the movement propels the body through the water. A main component would be the water. It is a liquid which allows free movement, but also as a support system to guide the force from the initial thrust.

The squid uses tentacles to push water out and in turn pushes the squid away
