CO or carbon monoxide is a dangerous gas which has adverse effects on the body. It doesn't affect the respiration mechanism of the body particularly but is life threatening.

The pigment present in blood, haemoglobin which imparts colour to the blood and is a carrier of oxygen, has more affinity for carbon monoxide than oxygen. Hence, it becomes a carrier of carbon monoxide if the amount of this gas respired is not controlled. CO affects the brain, central nervous system, causes dizziness and even death. Inhalation of CO can be controlled by controlling pollution and incomplete fuel combustion which is a major cause for the emission of the toxic carbon and its compounds.
