During interphase, DNA is loosely packaged as euchromatin, allowing for active transcription and replication. In contrast, during M phase (mitosis), DNA undergoes extensive condensation to form tightly packed chromosomes, which facilitates their segregation during cell division. This transition ensures that genetic material is accurately distributed to daughter cells while minimizing the risk of damage. Ultimately, the structural changes reflect the different functional requirements of DNA in these phases.
S Phase of Interphase
Interphase is only one phase of the cell cycle, which is composed of: G1, S, G2 and M phases. DNA replication occurs during the S phase of the cell cycle
Interphase
The phase where about 90% of the cell cycle occurs is interphase. Interphase consists of three stages: G1 phase, S phase (synthesis), and G2 phase. During interphase, the cell grows, performs its normal functions, and replicates its DNA in preparation for cell division.
DNA replication occurs during the S stage of interphase. Interphase is the stage between two mitotic or meiotic divisions. It can be slpit into three stages:G1, S and G2. During G1 (gap 1), cells grow and build up ATP on preparation for DNA replication. During the S (synthesis) phase the DNA is replicated. During the G2 phase the cell prepares itself for the process of cell division (mitosis or meiosis).

S-phase of interphase
S Phase of Interphase
Chromatin (DNA in loose form) is replicated in the S phase of interphase. Interphase follows prophase and is comprised of a G1 phase, S phase, and G2 phase.

Interphase
At mid-interphase.The DNA replicates during the S phase of interphase, after G1 and before G2, the two growth phases. Throughout interphase, the DNA is extended, and free nucleotides have access to the strands.During division (M phase) the DNA is condensed, so that the chromosomes are short, compact, and easily moved to the poles of the spindle.
The S phase, the middle phase in Interphase.
The S-phase of interphase is related to the synthesis of nuclear material. DNA replication also takes during this phase.
