Volcanoes affect the earth in many ways. The first being that they destroy much of the area surrounding them and in some cases lower the earths temperature by many degrees. Earthquakes are a side affect of volcanoes.
When a volcano explodes it covers the ground (most likely) with ash and or lava which over time turns into rock forming new land and rocks. It also can destroy cultures and preserve them like with Pompei. And animals and humans have lost their lives.
