Convection cells are lava underneath the surface of the earth that moves in a circular motion! When the lava gets closer to the centre of the earth, because heat rises, it goes upwards in a circular motion. Then it's further away from the heat so it cools down, and cool air sinks, so it goes down! The process is completed and this is called a convection cell this repeats everyday under the surface!

Do convection current in oceans cause tectonic plates to move?

No, convection currents in the upper mantle cause tectonic plates to move.

Which layer of the earth contains convection currents that move the tectonic plates?

The upper mantle contains convection currents that move the tectonic plates.

What allows tectonic plates to move on mantle?

convection currents

Do convection currents in the oceans cause tectonic plates to move?

No, convection currents in the mantle are the primary driving force behind the movement of tectonic plates. These currents are generated by heat from the Earth's core, causing movement in the mantle that in turn drags and moves the overlying tectonic plates.

What 3 forces possibly move tectonic plates?

convection currents

How do convection cells affect the crust above it?

It will move the tectonic plates

What layer of the earth has convection currents that cause tectonic plates to move?

The asthenosphere, which is a partially molten layer in the upper mantle, has convection currents that cause tectonic plates to move due to the heat-driven circulation of rock material. These convection currents are responsible for the continuous motion of tectonic plates on the Earth's surface.

Which part of earth's interior is inferred to have convection currents that cause tectonic plates to move?

The mantle is inferred to have convection currents that cause tectonic plates to move. Heat from the Earth's core causes these currents, which transfer heat to the surface and drive the movement of the tectonic plates.

How do convection cells affect the crust material above it?

It will move the tectonic plates

What drives the process of plate teconics?

Mantle convection causes the tectonic plates of the Earth to move slowly. Mantle convection is when heat moves from the mantle to the surface and causes the mantle, and the tectonic plates to move very slowly.

Why do the tectonic plates move in the first place?

Tectonic plates move because of the heat and pressure from the Earth's core, causing convection currents in the mantle that push the plates apart or pull them together.

Do all the tectonic plates move at the same rate?

No, tectonic plates move at different rates. Some plates move faster than others, while some plates move very slowly. The movement of the plates is driven by the underlying convection currents in the Earth's mantle.
