Volcanoes vary a lot in how they erupt. The most important factor is the gas content of the magma. All magmas have gases dissolved in them, in the same way that soft drinks have carbon dioxide dissolved in to make them fizzy. As the magma gets close to the surface, the pressure on the magma decreases. That causes some of the gas to bubble out of the magma. Magma with low gas content comes out of the volcano without violent explosions and then flows peacefully down the sides of the volcano.

What are three factors that affect the violence of a volcanic eruption?

Three factors that affect the violence of a volcanic eruption are the composition of the magma (viscosity and gas content), the location of the eruption (proximity to populated areas), and the type of volcano (shield, cinder cone, stratovolcano).

Does soda affect the eruption of a baking soda volcano?

Yes, soda can affect the eruption of a baking soda volcano because the reaction between the baking soda and vinegar (or other acidic liquid) produces carbon dioxide gas, creating the fizzing eruption. The type of liquid used can impact the rate and intensity of the reaction.

What is it called when a volcano ejects gas and liquid?

It is called Eruption.

Does water vapor affect how explosive a volcano is?

Yes. More gas trapped in magma leads to a more explosive eruption. Water vapor is the most abundant gas in magma.

What are the characteristics that forms an explosive eruption?

the gas thats going out of the volcano

Who did Mount St Helen's eruption affect?

local people and the environment in which the volcano was in.

What are the factors affecting eruption?

How full the magma chamber is and the amount of gas that is in the volcano.

Does every volcano eruption emits large amount of gas?

No each is different

If the magma of a volcano has a high amount of dissolved gas what type of eruption will the volcano have?

Typically, high viscosity, high gas magma results in a Plinian (explosive) eruption. The gas pulverizes the magma into ash and may form lateral pyroclastic flows.

What shoots out of a volcano during an eruption?

It depends on the type of eruption. Some will erupt lava or a mixture of lava and gas. Others will erupt gas, ash, and pumice.

What caused the eruption of the Arenal volcano in Costa Rica on June 29th 1968?

All volcanoes erupt for the same reason: magma making its way to the surface of the water inside the volcano, where it turns into steam and gas. The steam and gas propels the magma from the volcano, causing the eruption.

What are the factors affecting volcanic eruption?

How full the magma chamber is and the amount of gas that is in the volcano.
