Like all flowering plants, they primarily reproduce by seed in nature. The colored leaves that they are grown for are called bracts, which are basically their version of petals. The most important part is actually the small yellow parts in the middle of the bracts. Those are the parts that produce and receive pollen (the stamen and stigma). Plants grown from seed are genetically unique.

All that being said, almost all, if not all, poinsettias that you see in stores are grown from cutting, which means that they are grown from a piece of an already established and healthy plant (called the mother). Growing plants this way creates a clone with the exact same genetic make up.
