Well.......both types of eclipse have to do with blocking the sun, or making shade.

In a Lunar Eclipse, the Earth gets right between the Sun and the Moon, casting a shadow over the moon. The moon goes somewhat dark, appearing dark reddish in the sky.

In a Solar Eclipse the Moon gets between the Sun and the Earth, and the moon casts a shadow on the Earth. From Earth we see the dark disk of the moon sliding over the bright sun, blocking the light.
