Weathering of rocks is caused by chemical and mechanical means. Slightly acidic rainwater can react with rock surfaces, dissolving them over time. Rocks can also be affected by organic sources of chemical reactants. Heat from the sun can cause differences in temperature between the surface and the interior of a rock which can cause a loosening of the surface called exfoliation. Liquid water penetrates cracks in the rocks surface where it can freeze and expand, opening up the cracks for further attack in tandem with acidic rainwater. Plant root growth can also cause cracks to further expand, making them more vulnerable to frost expansion and chemical attack. Underlying rock which is exposed due to erosion of the overlying rock becomes free of the pressure it was previously exposed to, causing the rock to expand and break apart. Other means of weathering include the expansion of crystallizing salts that have been taken in by a rock surface, expansion due to the absorption of water, and hydraulic action from crashing waves on seashore rock formations.

Why sun is agent of weathering?

The sun is not considered an agent of weathering. Weathering refers to the process of breaking down rocks and minerals on the Earth's surface, which is primarily caused by factors like water, wind, and temperature changes. The sun's energy can contribute to weathering indirectly by causing temperature changes that lead to expansion and contraction of rocks, but it is not a direct agent of weathering.

How do cfcs affect air heath?

Why does the sun fade colors?

The sun fades colors by breaking down the molecules in pigments that give objects their color. This process, called photodegradation, is caused by the sun's ultraviolet (UV) rays breaking chemical bonds in the pigments, leading to a loss of color intensity over time.

How does the action of wind water and sun contribute to weathering?

Weathering requires energy (to break up the rock). This energy comes from the Sun in the form of Sunlight (heat). This heat drives the wind and evaporates water causing them to interact so as to do the weathering.

How human being can breaks rock?

If a human cuts down a tree that was giving shade the sun can erode rocks below the tree.

What causes rocks to be heated?

The core of the Earth is as hot as the surface of the Sun. Thus as you move down in the Earth it gets hot. When geological processes (the rock cycle) caries rocks to depth, they heat up.

Why do white rocks avoid water evaporation?

White rocks reflect more sunlight and heat compared to dark rocks, which helps to keep the surrounding area cooler. This reduced heat absorption can slow down the rate of water evaporation from the soil underneath the rocks.
