The absolute limits of our solar system are defined by the limits of the Oort Cloud, (courtesy of Jan Oort, a 20th century Dutch astronomer). The Oort Cloud is a collection of frozen and rocky fragments that are the remnants of the original Accretion Disk when our solar system was forming 4.5 billion years ago. The physical distance is not entirely certain, but is believed to be in the range of 500 billion to one trillion miles from the Sun -- not to be confused with the Kuiper Belt which is a lesser extreme distance away, between Pluto and Sedna.
