Alka-Seltzer contains various soluable compounds, such as asperin and citric acid, combined in a tablet form with bicarbonate of soda. The bicarbonate of soda reacts when it is in water, giving off carbon dioxide. This action makes the other materials present disolve faster than they otherwise would. ∙ 15y agothe tablets are made of powdered acid and sodium bicarbonate, plus flavorings and depending on the type some other drug. the powdered acid, most likely citric acid, dissolves into the water and reacts with the sodium bicarbonate(baking soda) creating a chemical reaction and carbonating the water.
