Some volcanoes erupt fairly frequently, others may be dormant for hundreds or thousands of years. The pattern of eruptions, if any, depends on the specific volcano.
It depends on the volcano. Each is different and has a different type of eruption pattern. Mt. Vesuvius in 79 AD erupted with a pyroclastic cloud and the eruption had begun 3 days earlier. Yet, in 1944 it erupted with a slow moving lava flow. So, even the same volcano can have a different type of eruption.

There are three types of volcanoes:Active volcanoe: A volcanoe that can erupt at any time.Dormant volcanoes: These are the volcanoes that had erupted long ago eg a period of 100 years. These can erupt at any time. They are also known as sleeping volcanoes.Extinct volcanoe: These are those that scientists are unlikely to erupt again as they no longer have a lava supply. It is difficult to differentiate between dormant and extinct volcanoes.
i don't know when this was but, it does not matter. the volcano in Hawaii erupts all the time
Cebu is a free volcanoe island but it is lying not far from the steep volcanoes underwater along bohol - camiguin straight and cebu leyte straight. One underwater volcanoe that erupted in 1952 is named didicas volcanoe. We do not fear of volcanoes but we fear tsunamis to happen when one of these steep volcanoes would erupt.
