Here is an estimate to your answer. Suppose that you travel straight towards Neptune at 80mph. You never stop for gas. It would take 3,852.7 years (approximately). The time would change depending on the speed you are going.

Let's say that you drove 120mph, which is pretty fast. Then it would take:

2,700,000,000miles/120mph= 22,500,000 hours

22,500,000 / 24 hours = 937,500 days

937,500 days / 365 = 2,568.5 years.

To travel from the sun to the earth it would take 88.5 years going at 120mph.

Space probes travel extremely fast through space (more than 20,000 mph I think), so that is why it is possible to reach Neptune in 9-15 years.

New Horizons space probe was sent out in 2006 and will only take 9.5 years to pass Pluto (2015). Check this out:

New Horizons will passes the orbit of Uranus on March 18, 2011.

Neptune: August 24, 2014

Pluto: July 14, 2015
