There are earthquakes almost everyday, some have small magnitudes, you can barely feel them.
Dormant, from the Latin word, sleeping, is often used for volcanoes and faults that are now quiet.
Excellent question! However, not enough information is available to provide a specific number of deaths from all earthquakes that occured everywhere in the world since the beginning of time. I did some lengthy research on this and I could only find statistics on a 'per earthquake' basis. It has data from the year 1900 forward. For earthquakes with at least 1,000 fatalities, check out: http://earthquake.usgs.gov/regional/world/world_deaths.php For earthquakes with over 50,000 fatalities, check out: http://earthquake.usgs.gov/regional/world/most_destructive.php The U.S. Geological Survey website has a wealth of information! I highly encourage you to check it out at: http://earthquake.usgs.gov/10,000
Yes. All countries do. Some countries that are close to fault-lines have major ones. Other countries far away from faultlines have minor ones. "Experts" claim that Jamaica is just waiting for a major earthquake now. There is however no way of making a timewise correct estimate for this.
It is almost impossible to know because there are earthquakes of different sizes all over the world. It is said that there are earthquakes happening every where every day. Most are so small they did not register on the Richter Scale and many that do are so small they are not worth mentioning as no one notices or feels them. The only ones that get mentioned and recorded with geological survey centers are the ones that register or are significant enough to be felt or have an effect on anything.
Earthquakes are like a rubber band. They both have limits. If you strech a rubber band the farthest it can, it will eventually meet it's elastic limit or the point where it can strech its farthest. If you go any farther than its elastic limit the rubber band will break. This is an example of how earthquakes are formed.I'm not sure if a volcano can cause earthquake or an earthquake can cause an volcanic eruption or both. But earthquakes can cause volcanoes to erupt. There are many kinds of earthquakes some are big and destructive but most of them are small that we can't even feel. Small earthquakes are important now and then because if they don't happen often the stress and force build up and create a big earthquake. One cause of earthquake causes in volcanic regions can probably be the shaking of an earthquake can cause an eruption. Or the shaking ofa volcano can cause an earthquake.
